  • Our Commitment to Rural, Remote and Underrepresented Communities

Community building is at the core of our work

The Centre for Cultural Futures Canada is guided by values of respect, inclusion, and equity. We recognize that Canada’s cultural vitality is built upon diverse histories, lived experiences, and creative expressions that span Indigenous peoples, rural and remote communities, and underrepresented and equity-deserving communities.

As a national organization, we commit to building a cultural future that honours these voices, removes barriers to participation, and affirms culture as a shared right and responsibility. Our commitments are foundational to our governance, programming, and partnerships, and serve as a compass for how we work with communities across the country.

Commitment to Rural and Remote Communities

As a national organization, we honour and respect the unique contributions of rural and remote communities across Canada, whose local cultural vitality and resilience are essential to our country’s shared story and identity. These communities hold deep traditions, knowledge, and practices that enrich the cultural landscape of the nation.

The Centre for Cultural Futures Canada affirms that rural and remote communities must be present and valued in shaping cultural policy, planning, and practice at all levels. We commit to reducing geographic barriers to participation and ensuring that distance or isolation does not exclude communities from resources, opportunities, or representation.

We actively encourage and welcome the participation of rural and remote cultural organizations, artists, and community members as equal partners in our work. By amplifying rural and remote voices, we will strengthen cultural sustainability, foster innovation, and affirm that culture thrives in every corner of Canada.

Commitment to Underrepresented and Equity-Deserving Communities

As a national organization, we honour and respect the voices of underrepresented and equity-deserving communities whose experiences and perspectives have too often been excluded from Canada’s cultural sector. These include, but are not limited to, racialized communities, newcomers, 2SLGBTQIA+ people, persons with disabilities, and others who continue to face systemic barriers to full participation.

The Centre for Cultural Futures Canada affirms that equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility are central to cultural sustainability and to our shared future. We commit to removing barriers, challenging inequities, and creating meaningful opportunities for participation, leadership, and recognition across all areas of our work.

We actively encourage and welcome participation from underrepresented and equity-deserving communities as equal partners in our governance, programming, and advocacy. By centering these voices, we will help build a cultural sector that is more inclusive, representative, and reflective of the diversity of people who call Canada home.
